i have been gettting painful periods. its a stabbing pain instead of cramping pain. i had an ultrasound two weeks ago and everything was find. is this endometriosis. it really hurts and the stabbing starts a few days before my period and then im left with a cramp for a week after my period. this has only been two of my periods so far. i never got painful periods before ussually i don't feel any pain at all. im 18.

Hello:
You did not say what the doctor concluded from your exam. Painful periods can be caused by a number of things such as fibroid tumors, hormonal imbalances and some medications. Have you recently started taking any medications? Some medications including birth control meds and devices can cause increased cramping. Since I am assuming the scan revealed no tumors or ectopic pregnancy, then you need to look for other causes. Endemetriosis can indeed cause considerable pain. You would need to ask your doctor to evaluate you for that possiblility. Let me know how you are doing.
