User avatar Hello,
Your doctor should have discussed this with you and made sure you had a plan for contraception. You definitely can become pregnant soon after giving birth, especially if you are not exclusively breastfeeding your baby, which usually delays the return of ovulation.

I know it may be a shock at first but you will adjust in time and close spacing, while not ideal, can be just fine. It is estimated that around 50% of all U.S. pregnancies are unplanned. Yet, most women and infants do fine once they get used to the idea and get the help they need. Consider a counselor or talk to your doctor or trusted family member, clergy, etc. about your fears. If you are indeed pregnant (and positive pregnancy tests are usually accurate 4-5 weeks after the last period), be sure to take vitamins every day and get prenatal care by about 12 weeks.

At the next delivery, please breastfeed for the best outcome for both you and your baby and use condoms or other protection when you begin to have sex again.

Best wishes.
