my wife has gained around 16 pounds in the last month. she is around a week late on her period. She also has been having pain in her lower half for around 6 months or so. She is fairly active, home with 2 kids and really watches what she eats. Any suggestions???

Hello, Rapid, unexplained weight gain should always be checked out with a doctor. She may be retaining fluid, but at any rate, this is not normal considering her activity level and food consciousness. Even if she were pregnant, this would only happen in the case of some water retention. If so, it will probably get better but it's good to find out for sure.
Best wishes.
