Question: The Day After I Had Sex I Started Bleeding

 yaguhnicole09 - Thu Apr 30, 2009 1:39 am

I have a question? The day after I had sex i started bleeding. One of my friends tell me I might be pregnant or something is really wrong. I would just like to know why I started bleeding and if I need to go to the doctor?

User avatar Hello,
Bleeding like this usually means just some alteration in your menstrual cycle or trauma to the tissues from sex. Sometimes orgasm causes contraction of the uterus and thus, some bleeding, especially if you were close to the time of your expected period. Bleeding immediately on conception does not happen as a result of pregnancy and is not a sign of this. When there is some bleeding a couple weeks later it is sometimes implantation of a pregnancy. There may or may not be a slight amount of bleeding when this happens.

Best wishes.
