I have just found out that I am about 6 weeks pregnant & have also found out I have bacteroides vaginosis. I have been advised to take a weeks course of metronidazole 400mg but I am concerned about taking this in pregnancy. I have read several conflicting articles & would like another opinion. Many thanks

Hello, Don't worry about taking this medication. Early studies that linked this med with birth defects were actually flawed. I would feel confident about this fact sheet presented by the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists. They really are the experts when it comes to exposures in pregnancy and they keep their material current. http://www.otispregnancy.org/pdf/metronidazole
Best wishes.
