What cough drops are safe to use during pregnancy? I have some ricola drops and some halls fruit breezers. Are those safe? I am 6 weeks pregnant and I have a horrible runny nose, sore throat and sinus pressure. Do you have any other recommendations? What is safe?

Hello, I have been told by teratology specialists that over-the-counter cold remedies are mostly fine and no problem with cough medication. There has been no apparent increase in birth defects among babies whose mothers have used these treatments. However, if you have high blood pressure you should only take antihistamines/decongestants under your doctor's advice since some can cause an increase in blood pressure. The concern is with the mother's health.
I cannot say whether or not herbal supplements are safe as these are not monitored in the same way as other medications.
Best wishes.
