Question: is it influenza

tikisniffer69 - Wed Jan 24, 2007 11:46 am

Hello my question is this. My girlfriend has had a Fever now for 5 days over 100 degrees. She has been to the doctor and he stated he thought it was the flu. However she does not appear to be getting better, It has been three days since going to the doctor. So my question is how long should these symptoms persist if it is the flu and is it possible it is something else, I. e. kidney infection or other illness, thank you

Hello,

Although Flu is diagnosed in most of the cases on the basis of the clinical picture and the results of examination, it is sometimes very difficult to confirm that it is flu (influenza virus) and not another viral or even bacterial form of respiratory infection.

In difficult cases some blood tests are needed to reach the correct diagnosis.

The majority of individuals recover from Flu in 1 to 2 weeks. Sometimes secondary bacterial infection occur and the condition become more complicated and Antibiotic treatment is needed.

If her condition is still getting worse after supportive measures like complete rest, fluids, etc, you should follow up with her doctor for proper management.

Keep us update.
Best regards.
