Cipro is a good, broad-spectrum antibiotic, meaning it is effective against many different bacteria. It is probably not one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for sinus infections but it could be effective. Sometimes it takes a stab in the dark to know which bacteria you are fighting and the doctor chooses one he/she thinks has a good chance of being effective.
I hope this is helpful.
