My husband recently did the 24 hour urine sample and a blood test. He got the report in the mail this weekend. Below are the results as they are listed on the report.
Creatinine 1.5 H MG/DL
Creatinine Clearance 74L ML/MIN
The doctor attached a note saying it suggests mild kidney failure. Can you shed some light on this report??

 Hello LBreedin,
Creatinine is a substance that is commonly used to estimate renal function because it is excreted completely by the kidneys and very little of it gets secreted. It is a very good estimate of renal function.
Serum creatinine normally can reach up to 1.3 MG/DL. Your husband's results are higher (1.5) meaning that his kidneys are not excreting creatinine as it should and hence it is accumulating in the body.
A more accurate estimate is the creatinine clearance test. Here there is a direct estimate of creatinine excretion by the kidneys over a period of 24 hours. If below normal kidney excretion is less than it should be. As said earlier this correlates well with kidney function.
The normal values of the tests you mentioned are probably written in the report given. Please refer to them and if there is any descripancy between the normal values above and the ones on your report then follow the ones you have as lab variations exist.
Your husband should be followed up closely and a search for a cause should be sought.

My husband was diagnosed in Oct.,2004 with IGA nephritis.He has had so much fluid on him that they increased his lasix to 4 three times a day 40 mg a pillLike 480 mg a day.In 5 days he lost 20 pds. in fluid.He's creatine level has been at 3.5 since Nov.2004Now as of today his level is 6.5He has not been on dyalisis yet.The Dr is gonna check the level again in a couple of days.How bad is the 6.5 level?

6.5 is high, however, what matters more is the speed at which the deterioration happened. Depending on other clinical and lab findings his doctor may advice dialysis which will restore his creatinine levels, hopefully.
