Question: Trance-Like Episodes

Seneca - Wed Dec 13, 2006 9:24 pm

I am communicating for my wife, who is 64 years of age, and she has a number of symptoms which are occurring. She has been ill for the past 24 years, and cannot get one or more diseases or illnesses to account for her problems. Her History is: 1 child, and right lobe removed on thyroid, 10 years ago. No other surgeries. She has been a type 1 diabetic for the last 5 years, and that is under control. Back in October 2006 hospitalized because she had trance-like episode, where she would be motionless, hands and feet would get ice cold. In the hospital she had an MRI of head and neck, EEG, colonoscopy, ultrasound of carotid arteries. MRI found nothing in the head, and 50% blockage in left carotid. EEG was a minor hint of Seizure activity. No surgery necessary.
Her overall symptoms are: 1.) sporadic trance like episodes and tremors at night, 2.) yellow mucus covered stools, 3.) eyes burn and her vision is off, 4.) stomach and back swelling-edema, 5.) back and spinal pain, 6.) dry lips and chapped, 7.) tip of tongue burns and is red, 8.) top of head has pressure, 9.) Arthritis of the cervical spine, 10.) hands and feet are always cold, 11.) hives and skin burns.
As I said, a lot going on, has had good medical care, but primary physician and specialists just can't connect all the dots.
Would appreciate if we can eliminate or control at leat a few of the symptoms. She is obviously stressed and depressed.

Seneca:

I'm very sorry to hear that your wife is ill. It would be nice to find an explanation that would cover all those symptoms.

There is one thing that stands out as I read your post, partial Thyroidectomy 10 years ago. When was the last time anyone checked her current thyroid function? Also, it seems possible that her thyroid condition that required surgery has recurred.

I recommend you contact your family doctor and ask these questions. You may need a referral to an endocrinologist.

Good luck.
