Question: Bells Paulsey

aldrich - Sun Dec 31, 2006 2:10 am

I am 35 yr old female. For the past 4 months I have been losing weight, a total of 45Lbs(have not dieted). Gone to the doctor for which felt like I was over caffenated and night sweats. Started seeing a therapist. Then noticed numbness in my face (left side) diagnosed with Bell's Paulsey. Last week became numb on both sides of my face. This week still numb in face, but now I have numbness in my knee with a tingling in my foot (right side). They did an MRI of my brain nothing. Blood tests nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dr. Safaa Mahmoud - Mon Jan 01, 2007 9:25 pm

Hello,

You have mentioned that your blood tests were normal.

Did they include a Blood sugar analysis, ESR, Serum Ca, urine analysis?
Have your preformed a radiological examination of the chest?

Did you have any attack of viral infection preceding these symptoms?

Is there any similar conditions in the family?
The course of the facial nerve through the intratemporal and extratemporal regions from the brain to the facial muscles and glands can be followed on MRI, so I assume it has been carefully examined.

Did you notice any enlarged Lymph nodes?

Causes may include:
Viral infection
Systemic lupus
Diabetes millitus.
Multiple sclerosis.
Sarcoidosis

You should follow up with your Doctor and repeat your tests as he would recommend.
Direct clinical examination is essential.

Keep us updated.
Best regards.
