Question: concussion

underthesun10185 - Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:44 am

I am a female, 21 years old and I just returned from a trip to Alaska. While in Alaska I went sledding with my friends and ended up hitting the back of my head on a tree going at a very fast rate. Immediatley I had a bump the size of a golf ball, which the next day turned to the size of a half of a baseball. I didn't know this was even possible. I didn't go to the doctor, but I did have confusion and nausau and extreme dizziness. These symptoms and Headaches lasted about a week and a half. It has been a few days short of a month since my accident and I still have a bump the size of a marble that is tender and doesn't seem to be minimizing. I thought otherwise I was fine until today I participated in intense exercise. I have always been an athlete and exercise has never been a problem I was a hair short of fainting today, experiencing nauseau and dizziness. Is it likely this is due to my supposed concussion? Do I need to seek medical attention or will this fade away?

Its never too late. Neurological examination and CT scan is a must.

The basketball/marble size bump should fade away with time. Its not a major worry (even though it could be a bit painful and main worry for you). Important is to rule out any intracranial abnormality.

Even if everything turns out to be normal, it will be a big psycological boost.

Wish you all the best :)
