Question: Head pain in back of head

 virginiagal46 - Sun Nov 25, 2007 8:01 pm

I am a 46 year old female. I have always had miagraines headaches. But as of the last month or more. I've been having a different kind of pain. First I had shortness of breathe and heaviness in my chest. But as of a week ago I am having a aching pain that went from my left back side of my head to the right side. I've tried taking Ibuprofen 800 mgs and nothing seems to help. Please can a doctor give me some advise.

User avatar Hello Virginiagal46,

I apologize for the delay in responding. By now I suspect your pain has resolved. However, for informational benefit, your pain may be due to a viral infection or an atypical bacteria infection (such as mycoplasma, the cause of atypical or "walking" pneumonia). These infections commonly cause chest tightness and shortness of breath. They, in particular certain viruses, can also cause muscle inflammation of the neck muscles. In some cases, they can also cause meningitis, which can cause neck pain and stiffness.

If, by chance, you are still having the pain I would strongly recommend you have it evaluated by your doctor.

Best wishes.
