Herceptin as part of the pre-surgical treatment of breast cancer

Herceptin as part of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in treating breast
cancer resulted in many
patients' tumors completely disappearing. The results were so good that
they prompted the halting of the study on the basis that it was
unethical to continue not giving patients in the study that form of
therapy.
They study which was conducted by the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston,
reported that
more than 65% of early-stage HER-2 positive patients completely
responded to the treatment compared with 26% of patients with similar
tumor types who received chemotherapy only.
