User avatar First, let me say how sorry I am that you have had to see your mother go through this for so many years. Alcoholism affects the entire family.
Now onto your question. I would not be concerned about cancer with her alcohol use as much as I would be concerned about liver failure with her. You don't mention if she is aware that she has a problem or if she would be receptive to treatment. My suggestion would be for you to talk to her about seeking help. First have her see her MD to have liver function tests run as well as other labs, at that point if she is receptive, the MD will refer her to a treatment program. Good luck to you and your mother.
