Question: Unexpected weight loss..and PC

steveseek - Wed Aug 04, 2004 12:20 pm

Hi...I had a baseline weight of 192# in May, which held with my normal exercise routine, and then in 6 weeks lost about 12 pounds down to 181. I seemed to stay at 181, and thought I had PC. So I had blood work done and CT and US, and Thyroid scan, and everything was negative. I still cant gain weight back permanently though. If I stop exercising and eat a lot more, I gain back weight, about 5-6 pounds in about 2 weeks. However, if I stop eating and exercise again, I lose the pounds back to 181. I cant gain the weight back, if I go back to my normal routine, and exercise. I really feel I have PC because of this, and am going to ask for a ERCP. I cant figure out why the weight does not come back on, and is this type of weight loss indicative of PC in its early stages..The weight loss of 10 pounds is per the American Cancer Society saying that it could be the first sight of PC. Any help would be appreciated! --Thanks!

User avatar I don't think that you have pancreatic cancer. Weight loss due to pancreatic cancer is progressive and will not be easily reversed in the manner you described. If you say that your weight loss problem starte in May, then by now other rather major symptoms would have appeared. Your condition does not warrant an ERCP. Other investigations used in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer include the tumor marker CA19.9. Although I wouldn't recommend this test because the symptom description does not warrant it.
Consult your doctor and get a regular physical check up, he would be in a better situation to follow your condition up.
Regards,
