Question, can you get Barretts esophagus without getting GERD first? And once you have Barretts, can you get GERD or relapse into GERD?
Thanks!

Hi steveseek,
Conditions that might have Barrett's esophagus as a complication, might be potential underlying conditions. The list of conditions listing Barrett's esophagus as a complication includes: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease ,heartburn ,and hiatal hernias. So yes, in answer to your question from what I've read it is possible to have this condition without first having GERD. GERD needs to be treated to avoid complications.
Sincerely,
Rntdj
