I recently went to the gyno and she asked me to see a radiologist in the next few weeks for a transvaginal sonogram. Is this normal? Should I be worried? I'm only 24 and in great shape/health except for a benign pituitary tumor which has been under control for over a year now. Can anyone help?

Hi MNB1202,
Transvaginal Ultrasounds or sonograms enable the radiologist to have a closer look at the pelvic structures (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and cervix). It may identify uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, fertility concerns, etc. etc. It would be difficult to say why in particular your physician ordered this test without knowing if there were any concerns voiced at your appointment. If nothing abnormal was indicated during your appointment it may be to evaluate for fertility concerns. You may want to give the physician a telephone call and ask why in particular this test was ordered for an explaination.
Sincerely,
Rntdj
