Hi, In stage 4 pancreatic cancer, the cancer has already spread to distant sites such as the liver & lungs or adjacent organs including the stomach, spleen and or the bowel. This is advanced cancer with systemic metastasis. In TNM staging, this is equivalent to Any T; Any N; M1(T=tumor,N=nodes,M=metastasis).
Treatment may comprise of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, biological therapy, or a combination of these.
Multi modality treatment,, is increasingly favoured. Pancreatectomy is no more a curtive option for stage 4 pancretic cancer.Palliative surgery however, may be indicated in certain situations. Best wishes!
