Hi,
I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and underarm area for a few months now - maybe 5-6 months. I'm 33, generally healthy with the exception of chronic sinusitis and asthma .My nodes are not huge, the largest in the submandibular area is 1.9 cm X .7 cm, and I have a couple of palpable nodes in the supraclavicular area (or lower cervical) that are less than 1 cm.
I had been feeling dizzy and under the weather for quite a while, so I had a million blood tests (normal, including esr/c reactive protein) chest x-ray (normal). I also had 2 ultrasounds of the nodes, which appeared benign. They seem basically moveable, but not soft - there is one in particular which feels quite hard.
I consulted with a surgeon who said that as long as the nodes do not increase in size, he would not recommend biopsy. Does that make sense to you, or do you think I should insist on biopsy?

Hi littlebugs,
Lymph nodes may become enlarged as a result of a bacterial/viral infection because the lymphatic system is the bodies defense for fighting infections. Lymph nodes may not return to the size of their pre-infectious state. The nodes in the submandibular area may be related to the chronic sinusitis. Although enlargement of nodes in the supraclavicular area may become concerning, taking into consideration that they are 1 cm or less and not continuing to enlarge is most likely the reason that a biopsy wasn't suggested. Also, the ultrasound evaluation didn't determine suspiciousness. If you would continue feeling generally unwell however, a repeat evaluation by your physician is recommended.
Sincerely,
Rntdj
