Question: Knee Pain

ranna - Fri Aug 25, 2006 3:06 am

Hi there. I am a 25 year old, slim build female. A few weeks ago I was walking down the stairs and both my knees begun to hurt a lot. The pain was located at the top of my knee, feels like just under the kneecap. Then, it went away after a few weeks.

Today I was bent down and went to stand up and my right knee hurt so much it caused me to sit right back down, I was almost crying. Now every time I am bent down and try to get back up I am in extreme pain, but this only lasts until I am fully standing.

There is a history of orthoarthitis in my family, but over the age of 65.

I had no injuries to the knee. My job requires me to be on my feet a lot, but I only work 2 days per week. I also walk a lot.

Any ideas as to the cause of this? Why would it appear so suddenly, then leave, and come back in only one knee.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Ranna

Hi ranna,
Have you had an evaluation by your physician along with some diagnostic studies/MRI. For example, when there is an injury to the meniscus in the knee, a popping noise may be experienced. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, stiffness, etc. If you have not had an evaluation along with diagnostic studies I would suggest that you do so.
Sincerely,

Hi!

My name is Allie and I am 28. I have the same type of knee pain but just in my left knee. When it is really bad I cannot walk up and down the stairs. When I am sitting/standing I get a throbing pain on the inner side of my knee. My orthopedic diagnosed it as patellofemerol syndrome, its when your kneecap is not tracking properely. I was put on anti inflamatory, put in physical therapy and had my knee taped to help keep it tracking properly. Unfortunately, I was allergic to the adhesive and had to stop using it but it helped. The pain does come and go, but when it comes the pain is severe enough that I absolutely cannot bend or walk stairs. This can last from a couple of days to a week. It's a pain but I just have to live with it there is really nothing else the doctor can do.

Hi alliekat,
Since you are allergic to the typical adhesive tape, was paper tape tried or any other stabilizing device? If not, those would be two options for your consideration. Best wishes.

Hello, I'm 47, female, had othroscopic left knee to fix tear, no real family history on knee issues. I'm currently taking meds for high BP. Both knees lower inside non stop pain, hurts to walk, climb stairs, exercise to lose weight and strengthen knees really hurts, if I sit for long periods I'm limping. Just would like some relief, to enjoy life. Over the counter products don't help. Is there something that I could do to get back to normal painless leg health?
