rachelle - Wed Dec 27, 2006 9:51 pm

I am a 41 yr old fem. went to family doctor was experience severe pain in both my middle fingers they feel tight and its to the point I can't even snap my fingers anymore and it hurts to grab a peice of paper. doctor diagnosis was tendinitus gave me mobic I was on that for 2 weeks and it helped a little not much now he has me on tramadol hcl 50mg which isn't really doing anything to relieve my pain or help my fingers move any better. tends to be worse in the morning after sleep I tend to sleep on my hands while sleeping. I just thought it was odd to be in both hands and only the middle fingers. I use the typewritter and keyboard most of the day don't know if that is the cause.
I thought it was arthuritus or carpotunnel ANY ANSWER????

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Two major problems that affect tendons: tendonitis and tenosynovitis.
Tendonitis, inflammation of a tendon and most commonly seen in the wrist and fingers.
Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the lining sheath of the tendon.

Causes include strain, overuse (writing), injury, or excessive exercise.

Carpal Tunnel syndrome gives also a similar clinical picture and is due to repetitive, strong motion with the wrist bent for long periods.

Symptoms are mainly in the form of Parasthesia in thumb, index and middle fingers, and the thumb side of your ring finger and never the little finger. Weakness and loss of sensation may develop.

A neurological examination and certain test can help in the diagnosis.
Treatments include activity modification like intermittent rest, avoid bending your wrist and to keep it relaxed, do not overuse or do a hard gripping.

Direct clinical examination is essential.
Best regards.
