My friend had surgery laminectomy discectomy. her lab results showed elevated lymphocytes 42% and segmenters 54% the others are normal. and when the lymphocytes are elevated there is viral infection so I just wanna ask if there is a connection between the infection and the laminectomy? Is the infection related to laminectomy? if not then what maybe cause her infection?
thanks...

I hope things have worked out well with your friend. And sorry for the delayed response. There is an adage in medical training: "treat the patient, not the lab". We should apply this here. A physician should evaluate with history and physical a potential source of infection. The complete CBC results would help too. Is she sick? Any drainage from incision site? Any fever or malaise? A more thorough review of your friend's condition is important. So, she should see her family doctor or surgeon. Keep us posted.
