Question: 11 mo old with ongoing fever, diarrhea, lethargy

 mom-2-4 - Thu Apr 23, 2009 9:26 pm Bookmark and Share

My 11 month old daughter has had fevers on and off for almost a week now. The highest it has been was 103 a couple days ago, but now is staying around 100-101. She's also had diarrhea on and off for a couple weeks. And now, just within the last two days, has been a little lethargic. She looks tired all the time even though she's been sleeping alot within the last 2 days, even has dark circles under her eyes. Her heart rate seems to be elevated as well, between 140-152 while sitting. Her only medical history is recurrent pink eye that I was told couldn't be treated with an antibiotic because it is viral pink eye.
Should I be concerned about these symptoms? Her one year well child check is on June 4th, is it okay to wait until then to see my doctor about these symptoms?

User avatar Hello,
Babies can become dehydrated quickly and lethargy is a sign of that or infection so I would not wait but have her seen right away unless you can get her to drink lots of fluids such as Pedialyte and she responds well.

Good luck.
