Hello. I have a 3 year old who does not eat table foods. All he does is drink milk, juice, eat yogurt, and pudding. He gags whenever you try to give him solid food even applesauce. He will not drink water. What can I do to get him to start eating?? I know theres something wrong but what can it be?

Hello, It could be just a preference or a sensitive gag reflex that discourages his eating, but I would recommend a visit to the pediatrician to see if there is any other physiological concern. If it is emotional and he just doesn't like solid food, the doctor might suggest some supplemental liquid nutrition while introducing soft foods gradually.
Does he try finger foods like dry cereal or crackers? Does he eat anything with a gel-base such as jello or fruit snacks? If he gags on everything it would suggest a problem that should be checked out - enlarged adenoids or some other obstruction perhaps.
At any rate it's time for an exam with a doctor.
Best wishes.
