Trauma to knee resulted in pain steadily diminshing, full range of motion almost present, 2 weeks post trauma. Medial and proximal to knee, a pocket of flujid is becoming well demarcated, not by discoloration, but because all swollen tissue around it is getting back to normal. No puncture ever occurred, pocket o ffluid is not infected. Is this probably burst suprapatellar bursa? At what point would it need draining? Should a knee presure bandage be worn? Does letting the body resorb the fluid increase the changces af arthritis at a later date?

Reabsoprtion would seem to be less traumatic to the knee than drainage. BUT to be certain, testing (manual) can be done to determine reflex response and possible x-rays or scans can be performed to look for unsuspected damage.
