Question: surgery after a 3rd degree internal tear giving birth

i had a baby nearly 5 weeks ago and had a 3rd degree internal tear. im not in any pain now but still uncomfortable. how long should i wait to have sex with my partner again? i havnt been told how long it takes to heal properly.

You should be able to have sex whenever it feels comfortable for you at this point. You should be healed, but be sure to take it slowly and make sure you have lots of lubrication handy. Unless you have other complications, your repaired tear should not interfere. It takes about six weeks for the uterus to return to normal size but somewhere between four and six weeks you are usually ready to resume intercourse. Don't forget that you could still become pregnant so use some form of protection to give your body time to fully recover.
