Question: Skin swelling and appears bruised
|aleackm - Sun Aug 31, 2008 3:26 pm||
My 3 year old son looked like he had a rash on his face,arms,legs and feet when he came in from outside yesterday. He awoke this morning and it seemed as the rash had spread even more, as time went by it began to take over those areas of skin completely and now almost look like bruises. He is swelling mostly in the hands, feet and forearms. Is this still a rash if not what else could it be?

It sounds, from the description, like an allergic reaction to something, probably some exposure while outside. Was he, by any chance, in the sun for an extended period? Some young children (in particular) actually can have an allergic response to sunlight. It's rare, and there are other things outdoors which can certainly cause similar reactions, but it's something to keep in mind if all other possibilities are ruled out.
Your son definitely should be examined by a doctor if the problem doesn't resolve within a day or two of onset.
I hope this is helpful.
