Question: My vagina smells bad.

 Ashleydanaa - Sat Aug 30, 2008 2:19 am

Lately I've noticed that my vagina smells really badly, almost like a ammonia. Sometimes I have to change my underwear half way through the day because of how bad I smell. I do have a white discharge but I thought it was normal? What should I do?

User avatar Hello,
The most common causes of vaginal odor are poor hygiene, infections, a forgotten tampon or damage between the rectum and vagina which might allow stool to move into the area. You should be sure to be very clean with regular bathing and lots of water with soap or cleansing gel. Douching is not recommended. If this doesn't help you should be evaluated by your gynecologist.

Best wishes.
