Question: IUD and onset of sexual activity

 bobdang - Sun Dec 11, 2005 3:05 pm

Hello, I had an IUD placed recently and had sex the night that I had the IUD placed. I was wondering how long will it take the IUD to become effective and should I worry that I might be pregnant ?

User avatar Hello,
I hope everything went well for you.
IUD insertion is very effective when used as an emergency contraception. It can reduce of pregnancy by 99.9% if inserted within 7 days after unprotected sex.
I would say you are probably safe.

Best regards.
