Question: irregular bleeding

 flo - Sun Aug 08, 2004 8:47 am

i am 36. i had no menstraul bleeding for 10 months while breastfeeding , then three normal ( 5 day periods). Now i have waeaned my son and i have had the last 3 periods with 5 normal flow menstrual bleeding plus 8-16 days of brown blood spotting. there is no odor, pain or other symptoms. I am in the preliminary stages of in vitro fertilization (for male factor infertility) and have had 2 normal ultra sounds and am scheduled for a pap next week. do you think this is hormone fluctuation after breastfeeding or what do you suggest? the ivf dr did'nt say too much

User avatar Dear Flo,

i think this could be to hormomal disturbances after breast feeding. However, i am not sure why you had 3 normal periods before the ones that had spotting.

Since you are going to have invitro fertilization, i think the doctors are making sure that everything is right to give this trial of ivf maximum chance possible for success. So, if there was anything wrong, i guess they would have done everything they could to fix it.

Thank you very much for using our website and i hope that this information helped.

Yasser Mokhtar, M.D.
