User avatar Dear Jennifer,

The heart tones can be heard starting from the 10th week of pregnancy. Sometimes they are not easy to hear because of the continuously changing position of the baby especially at this early stage.

If the fetal heart sounds were heard by your doctor before and now they are not, may be there is something to worry about, but if this is the first time that your doctor tries to hear the fetus' heart sounds at this early stage and he couldn't, i would not be that much alarmed.

Getting an ultrasound is the standard of care to check the fetus for any problems.

Thank you very much for using our website https://doctorslounge.com and i hope that this information helped.

Yasser Mokhtar, M.D.
