Question: Long period and weird color discharge

 happy3456 - Fri May 06, 2005 10:33 pm

Hi there,

First off I'm 16 almost 17 and have never been sexually active.
I usually get my period every 38-40 days but this month things went really weird. It started with a tiny bit of bleeding 2 weeks after my last period and then it turned into a discharge with a brownish color then it went on to be a purple color and then finally normal period blood and color for about a week and a half now in the last 3 days this brownish color discharge has come back. I'm really worried and the gynecologist isn't back till the end of the month otherwise i'd go. So could you please give me some advice?

User avatar Hi happy3456,
Generally speaking a brown colored discharge indicates old blood. This may occur as a result of the uterus not completely shedding the products of menstruation. I would however suggest that you call you gynecologist office for an evaluation when he/she returns.
