Question: brown discharge w/ odor

 momzy - Sat Sep 17, 2005 7:29 pm

I am not sexually active so ruling out stds but after having a normal period each month for the last few days its brown which I also know is normal but its very smelly. It only smells those few days then goes back to normal. I have no discharge or odor any other time except those few days during my period which it is brown then it is very embarassing. Its not fishy.. almost smells like bm. In fact once I was standing next to my friend and she asked me if I farted so I know the odor is bad.

User avatar Hi momzy,
You are correct about the brown vaginal discharge at the end of your cycle being quite normal. However, odors are abnormal and could represent the presence of infection. There isn't any chance that a tampon could be lodged is there? This would cause a brown/black discharge with an unusually terrible odor. I would suggest an evaluation by your physician to identify the abnormality.
