Tamer M. Fouad, M.D.
Dr. Tamer Fouad is the Editor in Chief of Doctors Lounge. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center and a Medical Oncologist at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. He also serves on the Editorial Board of several prestigious medical journals including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)’s Journal of Global Oncology.
His academic research is focused on breast cancer in general and more specifically inflammatory breast cancer. He has published original research as well as commentary in high impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Oncology, in addition to being a peer reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Journal of Global Oncology and The Lancet Oncology. He is also the Project Coordinator of an institution-wide collaboration between the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States and the National Cancer Institute in Egypt.
His research involves identifying predictive and prognostic models to facilitate treatment selection in inflammatory and metastatic breast cancer. He is also interested in the development of gene signatures to predict treatment efficacy in endocrine resistant ER+ breast cancers as well as exploring the epidemiological factors associated with inflammatory breast cancer and comparing inflammatory breast cancer populations in the US and areas of high risk such as North Africa.
Dr. Fouad is also a commentator on current affairs with special interest in philosophy, critical theory and the Middle East. His writing appears in the Huffington Post, The Guardian, Voice Of America and openDemocracy.
