THURSDAY, Aug. 10, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- Intradermal injection of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (LMW-HA) can significantly improve skin texture, reduce pore size, and enhance skin radiance, according to a study published online Aug. 8 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
Wei Qian, M.D., from Capital Medical University in Beijing, and colleagues injected 42 patients with intradermal LMW-HA for the treatment of enlarged facial pores. Each treatment consisted of 2.5 mL (25 mg) of LMW-HA injected into the full face and repeated two to five times with 1.0 to 1.5 months between consecutive treatments. Follow-up ranged from one to six months.
The researchers observed a significant difference in the appearance of enlarged facial pores (P < 0.01) before and after treatment. There were no reports of infection, nodules, or pigmentation at the injection sites. The satisfaction rate was 92.8 percent, overall.
"This injection technique is significantly effective at improving skin radiance and reducing skin pigmentation," the authors write. "The injection technique was simple, safe, and effective and could easily be extended to clinical practice."
