Question: Cystic Mass Pelvis, Is It Cancer?

 scotland1983 - Wed Apr 01, 2009 7:27 pm

Hi there. My mum has cystic mass pelvis. she is 53 years old. she said the cists had moved to her bladder, or perhaps moved to her pelvis? I cant remember what she said but anyway she is in a lot of pain and she said she is getting more tests done.

What i want to know is, could she have cancer and if she does could it be treated? Thanks

p.s she has had a hysterectomy done in the past.

User avatar Hi,
Firstly she will need to consult a gynecologist. A surface ultrasonography of the abdomen & pelvis and perhaps a trans-vaginal ultrasonography will be needed as the initial step.Based on the appearance on the scan, the probable nature of the cyst may be suspected (simple vs complex).Severe Pain does not automatically mean suspicion of malignancy, as benign cysts also can be very painful intermittently ( when they start to twist on their pedicles-what is known as "torsion").Please keep us informed.
