my son is experiencing pain from his hip.he is 15 yrs old and had perthes from 6 yrs old.he has been discharged but i am unsure how best to manage his pain.he had significant damage to his hip and has been told we have to managethis until he has a hip replacement when he is older.is it best hot or cold therapy,is it best to rest or do non weight bearing exercise?

I found some good info on non-surgical treatments for Perthes on The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons website.
Hope this helps. It looks like the recommend anti-inflammatory meds to control pain and discomfort, and physical therapy to preserve range of motion are very important.
