Question: Melatonin supplement for long term use
|Kitty1753 - Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:53 pm||
My daughter is 14 and she has been taking melatonin for about 3 years straight. Might have chronic insomnia but not been diagnosed. Can't go to sleep until about 2 or 3 am without it. I don't want her to get dependant on it but that might have already happend.

Supplements are not regulated by the FDA so specifics about them are limited. Studies on drugs give us information but the supplement industry itself advises here and it appears to be quite limited. Children should only use melatonin under a doctor's guidance since long-term effects are unknown.
I'm sorry I am not more helpful.
