a close friend of mine is constantly complaining of aches and pains.he claims that he has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but i suspect that he's just faking.is there a way i could tell for sure?

Fibromyalgia is a very controversial subject. Some physicians do not believe that it is a medical illness as much as it may be a reflection of psychological stress. However, there is no proof of a psychological cause, either, and until we have a better understanding of the disorder, it is likely to remain controversial.
There has been an attempt to create diagnostic criteria for this disease. Please refer to our fibromyalgia page for more info on these criteria and how to exclude this disease.
