Question: QUESTIONS ABOUT SOME PROCEDURES

 tiffairym - Sun Sep 14, 2003 11:19 pm

Hi, I am having an EGD/Colonoscopy this Friday and am terribly frightened. What are the risks associated with these procedures and how commonly do they occur?

I am also due to have an implantable arrythmia monitor put in soon, what are the risks associated with this procedure? Thank you.

A very small proportion of patients suffer a perforation. This is a medical emergency and may require immediate surgery. Post colonoscopy bleeding and sedation reactions are also possible side effects.
