Question: CT scan or ultrasound for kidney stones
|JKF - Tue Feb 13, 2007 7:17 pm|
Which is the most accurate way of diagnosing a kidney stone- a CT scan or an ultrasound? Thank you. JKF

Non contrast helical CT Scan is the most sensitive up to 100%and specific radiologic test up to 96& (means better definitive diagnosis).
It can give also idea about the presence of obstruction and nongenitourinary conditions.
US has sensitivity of 19% and specificity of 97%. It is a good test, easy, economic and accessible in many centers.
Hope this information is useful.
